Summer Program

Summer Leadership Academy

Where We Build Character, Drive Accountability, and Strengthen Habits That Inspire Excellence

This summer program is designed as a leadership academy with a therapeutic core — a place where K–12 students strengthen emotional regulation, build mental‑health resilience, and develop the leadership skills that prepare them for long‑term success. The program blends behavioral‑health interventions, social‑emotional learning, and leadership development, creating a supportive environment where students grow in both well‑being and capacity.

Our framework is anchored in the seven virtues — trust, compassion, courage, justice, wisdom, temperance, and hope — which serve as the foundation for healthy relationships, responsible decision‑making, and strong character. These virtues guide how students learn to manage emotions, navigate challenges, and lead with integrity.

8-Week Program Overview

Youth engage in structured experiences that build:

  • Self‑discovery — understanding identity, values, purpose, and personal strengths
  • Goal setting — using wisdom and hope to create and pursue meaningful goals
  • Discipline & self‑management — practicing temperance, emotional regulation, and consistent effort
  • Strength identification — recognizing personal assets and applying them with justice and compassion
  • Self‑expression & communication — developing the courage and clarity to speak, listen, and collaborate
  • Leadership & entrepreneurship — taking initiative, solving problems, and creating value for others
  • Negotiation & conflict navigation — building trust, fairness, and mutual understanding
  • Legacy thinking — understanding impact, responsibility, and long‑term contribution

By integrating leadership competencies with behavioral‑health therapy principles, students learn to manage emotions, build confidence, and practice the habits that support academic, social, and future career success. They leave with stronger character, improved emotional regulation, and a clearer sense of who they are becoming.

Lessons from Urban Agriculture

 Growing, Living, and Leading

RID-ALL

This year, Green Light is proud to partner with RID-ALL, a leading urban agriculture company, bringing hands‑on learning that connects leadership to the land, the environment, and community well‑being. Through this partnership, youth explore how growing food mirrors growing character, confidence, and community impact.

Participants Will Learn

• How seeds, soil, and care reflect the habits leaders need—patience, consistency, and resilience.

• How food systems connect to community health, access, and justice.

• How to take initiative by planning, planting, and maintaining a shared garden space.

• How strategic thinking shows up in designing sustainable growing systems.

• How excellence is practiced through responsibility, teamwork, and pride in the harvest.

• How growing your own food builds independence, confidence, and a deeper connection to the environment.

Community Events

We host a variety of community events throughout the year to bring together youth and families in our community. From workshops to fundraisers, there is always something going on at Green Light!
